Black Horse Farms, Inc. is a GAP certified family farm operation based in Coxsackie, NY in the Hudson River Valley. Located just two hours north of New York City, the farm is easily accessible to the NYS Thruway, Albany International Airport and the Port of Albany. Black Horse Farms is a supplier of major grocery chains located throughout the U.S. east coast.
The farm operation has grown from 225 acres back in 1959 and currently consists of over 800 acres of fresh market vegetable production. All aspects of the growing operation are controlled and overseen by Lloyd. The field plants are grown within greenhouse complexes located right on the farm and are planted directly to the fields. The packing sheds, marketing and business offices are all family managed.
Lloyd Zimmermann has devoted his life to agriculture. From his degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Vermont, to his current position as President of Black Horse Farms, he has always embraced the land. His excellent farming skills and strong work ethic have served him well throughout his career.
He has passed his skills along to his daughters, who are also active within the business. Lloyd’s daughters, Chellie and Lisa, manage the greenhouse complexes and ensure that the seeds he has carefully selected are well nurtured. In the spring, Lloyd’s son-in-law Keith manages our loyal crew of men, meticulously prepping the fields and planting the crops in sequence to ensure availability for the entire growing season.
Our motto is Pick, Pack & Deliver!! We try to pack and deliver all our produce within 24 hours of harvest.
It’s all about getting it out fresh to the stores and markets as soon as possible.
